What we do?

Printing and Publishing

Sharada Press, Mangalore’s oldest yet most preferred printing and publishing solution provider has established an airtight reputation that has stood the test of time and continues to target new heights with every completed project, each new challenge. The press is being associated with some of the most enduring trends with regards to its expertise on a local setting. However, the bedrock of all such achievements and the play field for further innovations remains the tested art of printing……… Eventhough a print sample from Sharada Press must theoretically equate to a sample from any other printing source……most often, the ‘experience based edge’ is bluntly obvious.
So, how does an idea, a vision; find itself in a printed format at Sharada Press? The process is one of combining new age technology with old age versatility.

Pre-Press:
Prepress is the term used in the printing and publishing industries for the jobs and procedures that are executed between the procurement of a written manuscript, original artwork or any other original content to the composition and manufacture of a printing plate, image carrier or forme    ( traditional tool) ready for mounting on a printing press.
At different instances in its history, Sharada Press has considered these items a part of its prepress schedule- Typesetting, Copyediting, Markup, Proofreading, Page Layout, Screening (Of images such as photographs), Retouching, Page Assembly, Imposition (Combining many pages into a single pattern), Trapping (Also called Spreading and Choking), Separation ( Specifying images or text to be put on plates applying individual printing mediums- inks, varnishes, etc.- to a common print) and Plate-making ( Photochemical exposure and processing of light- sensitive emulsion on a printing plate).
As in most modern work environments, the tasks relating to content generation and refinement are carried out separately from other prepress tasks, and are described under a different heading- Graphic Design, managed by the state of the art Computer Section at Sharada Press. The combination of Graphic design and prepress production is headed under a different category called, Desktop Publishing.

Computer Section:
The process begins in the Computer Section located in the Sharada Press headquarters in Car Street. The order, most often a blurred idea- scribbled on a sheet or explained in estimated terms, finds a real time representation that most importantly, can be executed. An initial draft is prepared and is subjected to logistic checks and client approvals before forwarding it to Pre-Press to turn a computer image into paper based reality.

Post-Press:
At Sharada Press we believe that Post-Press services are the most critical and time sensitive stage in the entire printing process. Due to the deadlines at stake and the amount of investment in terms of time and materials on record, we pay special attention to the customer’s exact specifications and go that extra mile to deliver the products you order, in lieu with your express specification and more importantly your schedule.

Binding:
An essential component to the entire process of converting an individual manuscript into its printed form is the requirement of ‘binding’. As the name suggests, binding is the process of combining independent pages of a complete document into a tight fit that will maintain its integrity even when subjected to hard usage conditions. Sharada Press has adopted Binding as a separate specialty with a whole unit dedicated to its cause in Sharada Press’s factory premises at Maroli.
Depending on the Binding agents, this process has different variants. Listed below are methods utilized by Sharada Press to service customer orders as also develop its in-house products.
